Bauska plans to become a major player in the Baltic logistics business

Bauska is a city at a crossroads – thousands of tonnes of transit cargo from Poland, the Baltic states and Europe pass through the municipality every day. The city’s special geographical location and business traditions are at the heart of an ambitious project – Bauska Industrial and Logistics Park.

The advantages of Bauska Industrial Park are mainly related to its geographical location and the possibility to flexibly provide land for investors’ needs.

What is BILP?

Bauska is known as a business-friendly municipality with high added value. The city’s geographical location, business traditions and municipal support are a combination of factors that contribute to the rapid growth of entrepreneurship in the municipality. The development of Bauska Industrial and Logistics Park (BILP) is therefore a logical next step that will strengthen the municipality’s status as a Baltic business and logistics hub. The total area of BILP is 85 ha, of which 70 ha are intended for industrial development and 15 ha for commercial development.
The land plots have all engineering and communication communications, access roads and a gas connection. Bauska Industrial and Logistics Park offers land plots from 1 ha to 27 ha for long-term lease on favourable terms, and the local government is open to negotiations with potential investors on the creation of additional necessary infrastructure. The first occupant of BILP is the International long-distance driver complex with truck parking, restaurant and hotel project.

Logistics – a strategic priority for the municipality

Ilze Tijone, Head of the Development and Planning Department of Bauska Municipality, draws attention to the fact that transport and logistics are identified as one of the priorities in the Sustainable Development Strategy 2015-2030 of Zemgale Planning Region in order to increase the competitiveness of Zemgale Region both nationally and internationally.
The development plan for the Riga metropolitan area, which includes Bauska Region, identifies three directions for the development of the municipality’s transport infrastructure, including the development of international and interregional transport networks, such as the Rail Baltica/Via Baltica rail and road network, and interregional bus connections for rapid access to the centres of Riga and neighbouring municipalities. This is important when thinking about labour and resource logistics.

Business-friendly municipality

Every entrepreneur knows that good cooperation with the local government is an important argument when choosing a municipality to invest in. Bauska Municipality knows that entrepreneurship is one of the most important prerequisites for the sustainable growth of municipalities and an important contributor to the well-being and standard of living of the population. Ilze Tijone emphasises: “Bauska Municipality understands the contribution of entrepreneurship and values the contribution of this sector to the development of the municipality. In creating the new municipality, we have brought together all the positive experiences that each local municipality had.”

What do entrepreneurs say about the development potential of BILP?

Aleksandrs Petrašs, CEO of SIA “VISSA”

Bauska Industrial Park has a great future, especially once the bypass and Rail Baltica are built.

Niks Kazaks, Member of the Board of SIA “Bauskas alus”

Bauska’s location and available infrastructure certainly offer a wealth of opportunities in logistics.

Kaspars Kazāks, Member of the Board of SIA “KIK Asset Management”

I see no reason why Bauska Industrial and Logistics Park should not ensure development.
